RoommateU is a roommate-matching community for San Diego State University students. These guidelines help keep the platform respectful, honest, and safe. This is Version 1 product copy and should be reviewed by a lawyer before public launch.
Be respectful
Treat other students with courtesy. RoommateU is for finding compatible roommates — not for harassment, intimidation, or personal attacks.
Disagreements happen. Keep conversations civil and focus on housing compatibility.
Prohibited behavior
The following is not allowed on RoommateU:
- Harassment, threats, bullying, stalking, or hate speech
- Sexual exploitation, unwanted sexual content, or solicitation
- Impersonation, fake profiles, or misrepresenting your identity
- Scams, spam, phishing, or commercial solicitation unrelated to roommate matching
- Sharing another person's private information without permission (doxxing)
- Use by anyone under 17 years of age
- Encouraging or organizing dangerous, illegal, or violent activity
Honest housing and profile information
Use recent photos that clearly show you. Do not use someone else's images.
Provide accurate information about your budget, preferred move-in timeline, lifestyle preferences, and housing goals.
Do not mislead others about availability, lease terms, landlord relationships, or living arrangements.
Report and block tools
If someone makes you uncomfortable, use Report User or Block User from their profile or chat menu.
Reports are reviewed for safety. Blocking removes someone from your Discover, Matches, and Messages views.

Account suspension or removal
We may warn, suspend, or remove accounts that violate these guidelines or our Terms of Service.
Serious violations — including threats, exploitation, scams, or repeated harassment — may result in immediate removal.
Moderation review is manual in Version 1. Enforcement decisions may take time.
Meet safely and verify housing independently
Meet potential roommates in a public place first. Tell a friend or family member where you are going.
Verify lease terms, landlord identity, and housing conditions on your own before signing anything or sending money.
RoommateU does not verify leases, landlords, or housing claims. You are responsible for your housing decisions.
Never send money or deposits through RoommateU — the app does not process payments.
Updates
These guidelines may be updated from time to time. Continued use of RoommateU after changes means you accept the updated guidelines.
